PNOY reaveals Christmas wish via YouTube: Less criticisms

All I want for Christmas is less criticisms,’’ President Benigno Aquino III said Friday when he was asked by a seven-year old boy named Joshua what he wanted for Christmas.

The question was one of many asked of the Chief Executive during his World View interview on the popular video sharing site YouTube on Friday.

When asked if he believed in Santa Claus, Mr. Aquino instead said Santa Claus was the “personification of the best in people, the idea of generosity [and] idea of caring.”

“More than anything, we really have shift to those of us who are still left in the criticize-anything-and-everything-phase to transforming ourselves into how can we assist our neighbor, our sister, our brother or whoever, somebody we don’t even know,” Mr. Aquino said.

But many “interviewers” also wanted to hear from the President his plans for the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1, which was recently derided in a blog as “the world’s worst airport.”

“It’s a 30-year old structure. It has suffered the ravages of time. A plan for improving it both aesthetically and structurally will be presented to me Tuesday next week,” Mr. Aquino said.

But he said an alternative airport remained the long-term solution to the problem.

In a related development, Transportation officials vowed to make improvements in the international airport’s facilities.

“The main objective...is to find the best approach to address recurring issues related to terminal and airport services,” Transport Secretary Manuel Roxas II told reporters after a meeting with other airport stakeholders Friday.

“This is just the first meeting,’’ Roxas said.

“What we will do is to further conduct time and motion studies, review the deployment of resources, and put in place more effective programs,”

The President was the first Asian head of state to participate in the YouTube program.

The past participants included US President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, and Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.
